Adiel = Happy

I can see the many visits this blog is getting every day despite the lack of updates. I apologize for this. I don't feel that I've got much to say.

It's been so great having a job that I feel like I need to be thankful for this great opportunity at all times of the day. Everything out here has been going so smooth!

I found an awesome roommate and we're going to be looking for a place to live immediately. I've got high hopes for this.

I'm steadily learning new tasks at my new job and I am absolutely loving it. The people I work with are beyond-words fantastic!

Activities outside of work have been in abundance as well. Two weeks ago I had never been to San Fransisco. I've now been to the city several times for different meet-ups and events. I love it!

It's so great out here and I just want to once again thank every single person that had anything to do with me being able to come out here. It really is like a dream come true.

Adiel = Happy

I'll leave you with a few photos of me and a few of my co-workers at a shopping event.

Hello California!

Alright friends. It's truth time. I feel I owe my readers, if I have any left, an explanation to my prolonged absence. As you may recall, I was laid off my full time office job last October. It was pretty life shattering and looking back on it, it is more than clear that it put me into a bit of a depression. Probably somewhere around two months ago I also received word that the school I had been coaching cheer at no longer had the funds to pay my position come the end of this school year. Needless to say, I was devastated. Getting laid off two jobs in six months was far from fun for me. I had a long time to think about what I wanted to do with my life and had considered many things including moving out of state, maybe even out of the country.

Then the light at the end of the tunnel arrived.

Recently I landed a job as the community coordinator for Kaboodle.com Any long time reader of my blog knows how passionate I have been about this site for a long time! In fact, my kaboodle profile tells me I've been on there since January 17, 2007. You seen me talk about kaboodle many times on this blog, clearly I'm a big fan. So I'm pretty stoked to have this opportunity to join the Kaboodle team and do something that I've been passionate about for so long!

So this is the reason for my recent to move to California, this is where Kaboodle headquarters are located. I'm stoked to be out here and I already love the place. I can't wait to start my new job tomorrow!

Monday, my sister, dad and niece drove me and my belongings out to Sunnyvale. Many of you may have followed this roadtrip on my Twitter. I took many, many photos that day and would like to share them with you in the form of a slideshow.

...and as long as we're on the topic, I think you should all sign up for an account on Kaboodle and check it out. It's been my favorite website for years, maybe it's time you find out why! Be sure to add me as a friend when you do!

Freaky Friday

When the alarm went off Friday morning, something told me that I really should just stay in bed. I pressed snooze, but eventually my need to be responsible got me out of bed and out the door.

Due to some rather shocking events that morning, I am now in the need of a new full time job. I mention this in the hopes that maybe someone reading this might know of something. If you do, email me.

That afternoon was the first round of playoff football so I travel with Wendy and the girls we coach on a school bus up to Syracuse for the game. Since my mom lives so close to where game was being played, she, my grandma and my sister all came to watch the game. Sadly, we lost the game so football season is over for us this year.

Crabby mood

Well, I have this Calvin & Hobbes comic hanging up at my desk, Marrdy printed it off for me way back when. I'm not entirely sure why, but I felt the need to share it today.

Work this week has put me in a pretty poor general mood. There is a lot of negative energy in my office and it's not fun to be here. It's not one bit like it was one year ago. I'm treated pretty poorly by some of the new faces around here, in turn it's made it hard to find the motivation to do anything around here.

I always find it hilarious and saddening when I look at it. I mean, it's Calvin, he's a funny little kid. However, this is so the story of my life. When I get sad or mad, nobody notices.I think we can all agree with comic to a point. Some of us want to be left alone when we're feeling down, but I think for the most part could all use a little pick-me-up from loved ones when feeling blue.

So take some time to notice the people you come in contact with on a daily basis and if they are cranky or moody, maybe just say a little something kind to cheer them up. I think we all feel like Calvin at times and could use a little extra affection once in a while.

Lagoon

My company's Lagoon day was this past weekend. Despite the fact that it was organized in the strangest fashion that I've ever seen, and despite the fact that the weather reports were calling for 50% chance of a thunderstorm, I decided to go.

We arrived at the park just in time for the lunch part of the day. Marrdy's son took a picture of the two of us in our company t-shirts, but we both look so terrible in that picture due to lighting and angle, I decided to spare us the humiliation. My new skimmer shoes were digging at the back of my ankles so I had to hunt down some band-aids, but as soon as the band-aids were in place, all was well.

After lunch, Sean and I took off to go on some rides. Despite being easily prone to motion sickness, I love rollercoasters.

After riding most of the roller coasters, we went walking through Pioneer Village. Despite the many, many times that I've been to Lagoon and Pioneer Village before, there were a couple of places that I had never seen before.

Shortly after this last photo was taken, it started pouring rain. Sean and I took shelter inside the "Rock Church" while we waited for the worst of it to pass. After the rain let up, we decided to take off.

I am pretty bugged though because I lost my O-gloss, again! I guess I should just stick to the cheap lip glosses because those stick around in my purse for a long time. As soon as I spend $22 on a lip gloss, it's gone forever.

Goodbye Marrdy

I have hesitated writing anything about this because I wasn't quite sure the best way to put how I feel into words.

Over the last few months I've seen a lot of my work family moved out of this branch. It was hard to say goodbye to them each, Tonya(Work big sister), Matt(Work big brother) and Brett(Work big brother), and I've missed having them around. I call them my family because I got to be really close to them all.

Yesterday was Marrdy's last day at the branch that I work at.
She's being transferred to another branch.
Even though she's only a city away, I couldn't be more sad.

Marrdy and I showing Mama Kat that we're real.

Mama Marrdy is my work mom in every essence of the word. She really took care of me as if I was her daughter. She fed me when I was hungry, she comforted me when I was sad or upset, she was indignant with me when I was angry, she didn't judge me and my random and wild escapades and so much more. I just wanted to make sure she knows how much I appreciate her taking care of me and treating me like an equal. It means a lot to me.

Marrdy's last day!

I don't want to say much else, because I don't want to bore anyone.
Marrdy, I'll miss you.
Good luck at your new branch!

Introducing.... Steve!

I have a lot of awesome co-workers.
I've introduced you to Marrdy.
I've introduced you to "Bob."
I've talked about Tonya and her Tonyaisms.

Today I will introduce you to "Steve".
We all love Steve around here because of all of his little quirks.

Here we have Steve's wallet. Steve just got done cleaning out his wallet. Look at how nice and tidy it is.

Steve has a habit of walking away with other peoples' pens when he borrows them. To try to stop this, he's developed an interesting habit in carrying pens around with him.

I hope you all get as big of a kick out of Steve as I do.

Weekend recap, and then some.

Life has been pretty hectic for me. I haven't really had a free moment to sit down in front of the computer lately.

Last week was cheer camp for the squad that I'm the assistant coach of. It was decided that a private camp would be best for our squad this year. That took a lot of planning on Wendy's part, I'm completely amazed at her ability to pull something like this together. It went extremely well I think, I don't have anything like it to compare it to. We had several people come in a do stunting, tumbling and dance workshops. All of them were so great! We made it past the few bumps that generally arise in any cheer squad at camp. We made it through an ankle injury. I got through all the bad hip-hop they had to dance to and I also choreographed for the first time in like four years. The girls learned so much and I'm super proud of them. Can't wait to see whats to come from them throughout the rest of the year. Also, all you parents out there, I had a tiny taste of knowing what its like to have a teenager. I had twelve of them! Crazy!

[Stunting, I miss doing it...]

[Learning a hip hop dance]

[The whole squad]

The weekend was pretty basic for me. Sean and I went out to dinner Friday night and ended up hanging out with Traci, Mike and Traci's family.

Saturday, I went to get my nails done and ended up getting a pedicure. I proceeded to mess it up as I got in the car to go to the pool. Leave it to me to do something lame like that. After the pool, Sean and I hung out. We watched Untraceable. Seriously, who thinks up this sick crap. Better question, why do I watch it? So gross!

Sunday, Sean and I went to The Original Pancake House. I love their food, so yummy. After that, I proceeded to read, fall asleep, and repeat. Three times. I guess I needed to catch up on some sleep considering I haven't been getting much lately. Once I finally got out of bed, Sean and I went to dinner at the Macaroni Grill. Funny story, we ordered fried mozzarella for our appetizer. When they brought our appetizer out, I thought it was strange that it came in little rings. I ate a piece anyway. I thought the texture and the taste seemed very off, but I wasn't sure so I had another. As I'm chewing the second piece, the waitress walked by and realized that someone had brought fried CALAMARI to our table instead of cheese. It all made sense, I knew that I knew that taste and it brought my right back to Mrs. Grossaint's biology class where she made us taste the fried squid we had just dissected. The best part was the look on Sean's face when he realized what he was eating. It was beyond hilarious, it made my whole weekend!

I've been pretty backed up at work with all the time I took off for cheer camp, the new responsibilities I've been having to learn and month end. I've been pretty tired after work and not been able to find time to get on the computer. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to catch up with all my blogging friends and see what they've been up to in the last two weeks!

Lets talk nicknames

The name Adiel doesn't really give you much in the way of nicknames so I haven't had a whole lot of good nicknames in my life.

Stemming from my name:
Ad
Ads
Adi
Adella
Della
Della Bella
Adella-jello (I went through a jello loving phase)

Not related to my name:
Little Dancer Girl (Levi and Casey were amused by my love of dancing)
Sarah (A couple of kids in summer school decided they couldn't say my name so they call me that, to this day.)
Lucy (Inside joke; *edit* at WheresMyAngels' request, the joke behind that name is this kid I used to date called me Lucy and I called him Ricky. I think it started because he was always telling me that I had some "splainin to do.")

*edit* Family nicknames
Ah-jelly (My sister calls me this)
Abigail (My dad calls me this, kinda rhymes with Adiel)
Adielita (My mom calls me this)

Now I come to the reason for this little chat about nicknames...
Last night at panty heaven, a girl I work with had a fun little conversation starting with how to say my name.
Clever Coworker: "Adele, right?"
Me: "No, Add-yell."
Clever Coworker: "Oh... Where'd you get that name anyway?"
Me: "My mom found it in a baby book, its hebrew, it means 'ornament of the lord'"
Clever Coworker: "Oh! Ornament! I know what I'll call you; Orny!"

Oh boy, I couldn't be more thrilled.
I think this one wins the award for best nickname ever.
< /sarcasm>

Why do people choose to look like garbage?

Last night at panty heaven an interesting client came in.

She(?) was tall and thin in a non-attractive way and her breasts were very obviously overly-enhanced. She had the long claw-like nails that could surely scratch your face off, of course they were a deep, deep purple. The clothes were very worn, its a wonder they weren't just falling apart as she walked.

Her hair was a mess of what I can only assume to be hair extensions that she glued in herself. The seems were haphazardly placed all over her head and were poorly taken care of. They were pretty much dredlocks at this point.

Then there was the smell, oh the smell! She smells the way that I imagine Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears smell. Surely this woman can afford to take better care of herself, she had bags from many stores and was purchasing at least a couple hundred dollars worth of merchandise from panty heaven.

So my question is why do people choose to smell this way? To look this way?
I'm not saying everyone has to be a fashion icon, but at least have a little self-respect.
At the very least, I'm sure a shower or some deodorant wouldn't be too much to ask...

Things that made my day.

Happy Monday!

-In talking about Angelina Jolie's and Brad Pitt's brood, I got this little gem from Marrdy: "They've got Pax, Dax, Wax and Flax... oh and Shiloh."

-My sore throat seems to finally be going away.

-The "real life facebook" as seen on fashion indie.

-Nicole's bar story.

-My visitor at panty heaven was kind of nice.

I'd really like to encourage you all to do your own "things that made my day". Its a good way to reflect on the positive when you're feeling down. If you do, I'd love to read it! Either link back to this post or send me and email with your link.

I'm thinking its time for some new shoes.

So this guy I work with, lets call him "Bob", has a little problem. He has some nice looking shoes that he loves to wear. He wears them nearly every day. They are totally great except for one small thing...

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, those are his socks poking through.
And clearly this isn't something that happened recently. To my knowledge, he's been walking around like this for weeks.

Who thinks its time for "Bob" to get some new shoes?
Lets hear it, all together now...

Thursday recap!

Usually I recap just my weekends because my weekdays are usually just filled with work. That can get pretty repetitive in a hurry!

Yesterday was a little out of the ordinary and quite fun. I had to leave my main job early to go to the stunt safety clinic that the U of U cheerleaders put on. The little coaches' meeting nearly scared me half to death, but I'm mostly over it now. The girls did quite well with their stunting and I'm super proud of them.

The best part of the clinic is when we were leaving, Wendy, Jessica and I walked past some cheerleaders from HJH, which all three of us cheered at. Being silly I yelled, "Go HJH!" as we walked past them. Then Wendy told them that the three of us had cheered there and I told them to look us up in the library. (The tradition at HJH is that the SBO's and Cheerleaders have their pictures put up in the library.) Then as we walked away, the three of us decided to see if we could remember the school song and dance, which we kind of did remember. So we' did the school song from junior high in the middle of the parking lot. We are SO cool! ;)

Later, Wendy and I had to meet with the girls and their parents. It was my first time meeting most of their parents so it was a little intimidating. Its lucky that I work with Wendy, because she is awesome with all that stuff. I definitely have a lot to learn from her.

One totally funny thing is that the girls all call my "Addy" because the can't or don't want to try to say my name.

Things that made my day.

-Lunch with everyone at work. Even though it was a sad occasion, I still had a blast all talking and laughing together.

-Discover that I can still ride a bike.

-The girls' progress at tumbling.

-The fact that "things that made my day" is catching on.

-Strangely enough, the rain.

-My new pants.

Its that time again.

The seasons are changing and so is my wardrobe. I've got loads of great spring/summer attire that I've slowly been incorporating into the outfit rotation.

There is one road block for me however.
Its that time.
The time when the men at the office take over the A/C.
It might as well be winter still for the temperatures that I'm enduring in the office. My fingers are freezing, my toes are little popsicles in my sandals, my legs and arms are covered in goosebumps.

What to do, what to do?
Sacrifice my comfort for fashion?

I suppose so...
After all, is that what most women do when it comes to things like shoes?

Gotta love Ischa...

Sorry for the constant downer in my blog posts recently. I decided to throw a bit of humor in for you all...

My recent breakup has been a quite a fascinating topic for most people in my life right now. I'm constantly getting asked how I'm doing. Last night at panty hell, Ischa asked me how I was doing. I told her I was hanging in there and she responded by asking his sign. I told her I didn't know, but told her his birthday. She responded with, "Capricorns? They're all douche bags anyway, you're better off without him."
haha

Ishca is huge into astrology and she always surprises me with her knowledge on the topic. Back when I barely knew her, she guessed that I was a Scorpio with almost no personal knowledge of me. It kills me how accurate her knowledge about me is based alone on her knowledge of Scorpios.

Anyway, her comment about him totally cracked me up. Its nice to smile these days, I savor each and every time it happens.

Ducks + Puppy = Entertainment

Yesterday and today we've had a pair of ducks take up residence in the grass and bushes outside my office. Marrdy has been encouraging them by feeding them so they'll probably never leave now. They seem smart though because they come up to the door and knock on it with their beaks.

It has been quite funny to see how Lacey reacts to them though. She mostly just watches them, but she got all riled up once and was barking and jumping at them. Too funny.

Puppy Love

My co-worker, Brett, and his new wife Robin got a new puppy last weekend. Brett has been bringing her into the office every day because she can't be left alone.

She is the absolute cutest puppy in the world.
Seriously, she wins!
...and I don't even like dogs all that much.

I've got to say, its been good for the office. We're all in happier, more smiley moods.

Weekend recap.

The last few days have been nuts for me. I've been so busy, I've barely had time to stop and think! I'll share some of the highlights with you.

Friday morning I had the opportunity to help a dear friend out and judge tryouts for Wendy's high school cheer squad. It was fun to be involved with something cheer related again, even for just a day. I was also flattered that she thought of me. It made me realize that I do miss cheering. Wendy was so cute providing us with great treats and by color coordinating all the judging materials. She's so neat! Wendy and I realized that we hadn't actually seen one another since high school, so it was great to get to visit with her in person once again.

After I finished the tryouts, I had to run straight home to pack up my room. I spent about 4.5 hours packing and cleaning. I was so exhausted at that point that I didn't know how I could possibly move everything at that point. Thankfully Sean showed up at that point to help me. Traci's parents were also great about getting the stuff down to my new bedroom for me. It was great to have the extra manpower. I sure couldn't have done it alone. We ran into an issue with my couches however. I had nowhere to store them. There was no room at Traci's house, my dad's house and they couldn't fit down the stairs at my mom's house. I was worried that I'd have to get rid of them, but my sister decided that she'd take them for her apartment. I do need a new TV stand now though as I decided my old was too much bulk to keep moving around. I was so exhausted that I passed out around 11pm that night, which is early for a Friday night.

Saturday was another busy day for me. I got up fairly early considering I like to sleep late on Saturdays. I had to go to my cousin's fiance's bridal shower. It was nice to see extended family that I hadn't seen in quite a long time. It also didn't hurt that they had some pretty good food to snack on while they're there.

After that it was time to head to Ashley's baby shower. Ashley and I have been friends since we were five. I've been through a lot with this girl so it was nice to be able to be there with her at her bridal shower. She is a little over a month away from her due date, but I'm sure she's feeling pretty ready now. She looks so adorable with her little belly! It was fun to get to see her family again as well. Ashley's house used to be my second house growing up, but I hadn't seen her parents or sister in years. There were also lots of other people that I hadn't seen in a long time, such as Megan. I hadn't seen her since she was pregnant with her first little boy and now her second is 8 months! It was such a nice few hours.

After the two showers, I finally had some time to unpack. I thought it would take forever to get everything in its place, but it really wasn't bad. It only took an hour or so to unpack everything. What a nice feeling it is to be all settled once again.

Sunday I had a meeting at panty heaven/hell. We had an opportunity to learn about some exciting new products and changes at the store. I do love working there a couple nights a week. My friend from work, Suzi, and I went to lunch after. She's such a fun girl to hang out with.

Later I got the opportunity to hang out with family again. Many people were up at my mom's for enchilada night. The food was delicious and I love being able to see my mom. We played apples to apples with 11 people! That was a challenge!

My weekend was great, but I'm sure ready for a break!
