Child Style

Sometimes I wonder if things I wore in my childhood affect my sense of fashion now as an adult. I distinctly remember a few key pieces of clothing that I adored when I was growing up.

I remember on the first day of Kindergarten, my parents bought me this pastel floral skirt to wear on my first day. I recall feeling so pretty and special in that skirt and I loved to wear it.

One of my favorite outfits as a child was this white cotton jersey-like skirt, cut in a-line that fell a little bit above my knees. It came with a thick, black patent belt. Alone I loved to wear that skirt and belt, but my favorite things to wear with them was a button-up shirt with gold and white vertical stripes on it with my white Keds.

In second grade, had this maroon colored corduroy skirt with silver buttons up the front. I adored that skirt. I think I usually wore it with a floral body-suit. That's right, a body-suit.

My third grade class picture shows me proudly wearing a gigantic cream colored bow right on top of my head, flopping down on both sides. I loved to wear bows in my hair oh so much.

My favorite dress growing up was a long cream colored dress with mauve flowers on it and dark green leaves. It buttoned up the front and had a little collar. My absolute favorite thing about that dress though was the open-back.

Seeing any themes?
I was a girly-girl to the very core. Skirts, dresses, florals, bows, the works.
If any of those items were still in my possession and they still fit me, I would probably wear them.

I think it's pretty obvious that at least that much hasn't changed as far as things that I like to wear, you can see it in my abundance of skirt and dress outfits. I was always a very matchy-matchy person. You'll usually find if I wear a color, I'll usually have matching accessories. That's just the way that I do it. I love me some clean white sneakers. I don't wear sneakers a lot these days, but when I do, I'm drawn to plain white sneakers. I don't know why, but the clean white just appeals to me. I can guarantee that my obsession with tops and dresses that have open backs started with that dress. In general, I love skirts and dresses over anything else.

What were your favorite things to wear growing up and how do you think they've affected your style as an adult?

Shooting stars

This morning, I saw a shooting star for the fourth day in a row. It reminded me of something Wendy said to me last week when she saw one. She said, that because she saw that star, it was going to be a good day. Well shouldn't that mean that I'm having a good week?

Well, it's not been a bad week...
I guess that's good, right?

but...
How can you not have a good day when you're wearing one of Richard Chai's creations for Target?

Plaid dreams

This outfit is basically the same concept as an outfit I wore last week. Call me lazy, but I loved how it turned out so I decided to apply the concept with different clothes. Body-con dress as the base, throw on an old button up shirt, roll up the sleeves and tie it off with a belt at the waist. Pretty simple.

Sorry for the lack of photos on this one. There were a few things stopping me from getting many pictures. You get the idea though.

Richard Chai

I missed out on Rogan's Go International collection at Target simply because I didn't pay any attention to when it would be released. I was determined not to do this with Richard Chai's collection because it looked fantastic. I set a reminder on my Blackberry and was able to remember to make a visit to the nearest Target yesterday. I could tell it had been browsed through already, but they still had everything in my size. I took one of everything that interested me into the dressing room. The four ladies manning the rooms were nice enough to not hold me to the "6 items in the room" rule.

These jeans were not in stock at the Target I visited. They don't look all too flattering on this model, but I would've like to try them on.This trench also wasn't there, but I think I'm just going to purchase it online. These are the pieces I actually left with.I'm probably going to take this one back. No one I showed liked the way that it fit me, it bunched funny in back. I wish so badly that it had worked because the color is fabulous and I love the neckline/backline.
These are items I'm thinking of going back for.The sleeves were a tad too long, but I loved it. I just had a hard time buying a sweater when it was 96 degrees outside.

I liked this top, but I liked the dresses more.

Other items that I tried on...So not flattering...

These shorts flared away from my legs in back. I didn't really care for the airy feeling.

This top was just alright, nothing special.

Again, not a flattering top.

I'm probably going to see if they have anything different at other Targets around me. What did you like from the collection?

With or without you

The jacket that is.

It was just one of those days…

I woke up late.
The outfit I picked out the night before didn’t end up working.
My clean bedroom was littered with clothes, shoes and hangers before I came up with this…

I started out with the dress. Added the belt, then the shoes. It didn’t feel complete so I grabbed the jacket on the way out the door. I didn’t spend much time wearing the jacket, it was far too hot today.

Black & Blue

I felt like messing around with the navy blue and black color scheme again. I threw some old pieces together with my new shoes and this belt that I picked up at Target for $2.50. It was a peculiar choice in my eyes, but I like how it turned out.

Bruised

So here is the outfit I created based on the Rag & Bones outfit I mentioned a couple posts ago.

It has taken a long time to be able to wear navy and black together. Now I quite like it.

I bought these pants with summer in mind. I hate how most of my full length pants, even my skinnies, cover up all my cute summer shoes. I bought these pants at a shorter length so that I wouldn’t have to deal with this problem.

Two things, I'm loving these shoes so much and I've also decided I don't like posing in grass.

Forever Twenty Two

Monday was a day that called for a little bit of retail therapy.

The A/C in my car went out last week and I haven’t been able to get it fixed yet. Driving to the mall for my part-time job (for the discount) I was sweating through my dress in the desert heat of Utah. I was in such a hurry to get out of my car that I ended up in the mall with lots of time to spare before my shift started. I ended up walking through Gadzooks, which carries Forever 21 products. Without even trying, I ended up leaving with four items.

I tried on the top half of this outfit with a pair of black skinnies, but it didn’t seem right. I tried on the skirt instead and I liked it. That is how I ended up wearing three of my new items in one outfit; the flower ring, the scarf and the skirt.

The skirt is all wrinkled from sitting at my desk all day. That’s life…

Inspiration

I think I will have to imitate this outfit from the Rag & Bone Resort 2009 Collection.

Step one, stretch my skeleton so that I'm this tall.
That's it.
I think I have everything else I need.

Kaboodle Styleboards

After seeing all of the Kaboodle employees stressing via twitter, the rest of us were finally filled in. Last night the site was updated with a new feature they're calling styleboards. Mostly its just people putting together outfits, but I have seen a few other styleboards with different themes.

Here are the styleboards I've created so far:

Daily Outfit

I picked this dress up on the clearance rack at Urban Outfitters without even trying it on. The color just drew me to it like a moth to a flame. It also has the cutest criss-cross back. Why oh why did I forget to capture a picture of the back of it? I love the light, airy fabric with the tiny floral print on it.

I loving this belt too! Its a men's size 38 so I have to twist it around itself and I love the looks this creates.

I know I wear these shoes entirely too much, but they're pretty much my favorite one right now.

I happened to by carrying around my new bag as well, so I kept it with me for the pictures.

Playing dress-up

I should've been getting stuff done around the house, but instead I played dress-up.

Let me just say that the inspiration for these outfits stem from a few people. Having subscribed to their blogs, Karla, Rumi and Taghrid have become fashion idols to me. I love their style and I would say the following looks are inspired by a mix of their individual styles.

I pulled a few things out of my closet to play around with a few items I recently picked up. I’m not really sure how I feel about any of these outfits so input would be much appreciated.

What do you like?
What do you hate?
What would you change?

My stalker-y version of Street Style

When Marrdy and I were at the deli picking up lunch today, the was the cutest little girl there. Always the friendly one, Marrdy approached this little girl and her mother. We found out at 8-years-old, she's already picking out her own outfits and telling her mom what stores she needs to shop at for clothes.

You'll have to excuse the crummy pictures, but I didn't want to pull my real camera out of my bag and scare the poor girl and her mother. In other words, I didn't want to look like some psycho stalker lady.

Both her hat and shorts were green camo, the hat having a pink edge to the brim. Her white tank had a faint pink pattern on it. On her arm, she had a white hoodie with pink hears all over it. Her pink jelly shoes made me want to buy a pair. The silver sequined belt and purple necklace topped it all off. I couldn't believe she pulled this all together herself being only 8-years-old.

A fashionista in the making?
Too cute.

Obsessions: I want it all

I want, I want, I want.
Why must there always be something that I want?
I sound like Veruca off of Willy Wonka!

After moving, it took some time for the Victoria's Secret catalog to catch up with me. By the time that it did, it was all clearance stuff, nothing new. Boring.
Well yesterday I got my fall preview catalog. As usual, I want pretty much everything in it. Blazer, skirt, dress, tops; what should I get?
Go figure.

After buying the AA Bandeau Dress and finding out how much I loved it, I've been wanting more colors in it and in the pencil skirt version as well. How will I decide which of the many colors to get and which version first?

After seeing two great scarf outfits online by inspiration and SLC Socialite, I'm officially on the hunt for a great scarf. I spent all day looking and I couldn't decide on anything. I'm much too indecisive.

I think my obsession with these shoes started after seeing them on Taghrid. I want them ever so bad!

I've officially fallen for the romper trend. I have no idea if I can pull it off, but I'm will to try with this romper. So yeah, I want it!

I have been obsessing over this skirt for a while now so I went into American Apparel to try it on. Yeah, it didn't look as hot on me and I have no idea what I'd wear with it so I left the store without it. The trouble is I still want it. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe I'd like this other skirt more.
Or, maybe I want them both...

In general, I've been obsessed with adding blazers, skirts and jackets to my wardrobe. I've got ideas in my head of what I want, but I'm not sure if these ideas exist in the real world. I really just need to get a sewing machine ASAP and start making my own clothes. I've been down this road before and it ended with me giving up because I have no idea what I need to be looking for in a sewing machine. Any tips?

So those are my current wants/obsessions.
What will I get? I may have three jobs, but I can't buy them all!

Modepass.com

Just found out about a new website from Elodie, its modepass.com. From what I can gather, its a French beauty and fashion website done in English. It seems that if you're a fan of fashion, its worth signing up for and checking it out. I signed up, but don't have a lot of time to play around with it at the moment. Once I do, I'll give you any further thoughts that I have on it. Right now the site is accessible by invitation only so I'm hearby inviting you to click on the image below and check it out!

If you sign up, add me as a contact. I'd love to hear what you think about this site as well!

Why didn't I think of this?

Originally from my Kaboodle blogazine.

-----

Those of you that have read my review on the Maidenform Backless Bra (here and here) know that I've been looking for a way to make that bra work the way I'd hoped it would. I've taken to safety pinning the straps to whatever top/dress I wear with that bra. The trouble is those silver and gold safety pins don't always go unnoticed.

Enter Violettes Pin-Ups.

They've got several varieties of colored pins to match just about anything that you wear. From colors to black for your LBD to white and ivory for brides.

I'm sure you can all think of the countless other times that you might need a safety pin to fix a fashion flaw. If it matches and blends in, all the better!

I'm going to be checking these pins out, how about you?

What I'm wearing - In protest

Today it is really cold, rainy and even snowy in higher elevations. Its June so I’m going to dress like its June weather. In protest of the cold weather, its bare legs and sandals for me!

I just got this dress and I’m amazed at all the different ways that you can wear it. I either need to order more dresses like this or start washing it nightly because I want to wear it every day in a different way.

This is the way I decided to wear it first, as a skirt...

What is a good pair worth?

An excerpt from my Kaboodle blogazine:

"We're talking jeans here people.

I've never really wanted to spend much money on denim before. I think the most I've ever spent on a pair of jeans is probably $70 or so, but that was probably only once or twice in my life.

I've found a pretty reliable brand for jeans..."

Daily Outfit

Recently I mentioned signing up for Chictopia.com. I decided that if I'm going to be taking pictures of my outfits for that site, I should follow Miss Cedar's advice and start doing Daily Outfit posts.

---------------------

I'm still struggling with wanting to wear my new spring clothing, but not wanting to freeze all day. Utah weather is being slow to warm up this spring and I'm becoming impatient. This outfit is a result of that compromise.

Polyvore

I rediscovered Polyvore today. I signed up on that site about 5 months ago, but never did anything with it. I was apprehensive about trying it out. This morning however I decided to give it a try. After messing around with it for a bit, I published my first set.

What do you think?
I went to buy that dress last week, but its on backorder till May. This would be an outfit I'd buy if I could.
