Halloween Costume Party

Steph and Norman threw a costume party at their house this past weekend. I adore Halloween and I loved seeing everyone in their costumes. I was also excited to wear the Vampire costume that I made this year. I spent a lot of time making the skirt, but the necklace was really easy to make. I also made a cape to wear, but ended up not liking it so it's just sitting in my bedroom. I found the red, ruffled shirt for my costume at Forever 21. The studded mary-janes came from Forever 21 as well. I got the tights and coffin clutch from the costume store.

Here are some photos from the party:

Norman and Chaz's costumes were cracking me up. They were way too funny!

It's so weird seeing these pictures of me, I think the pale makeup just makes me look sick in these photos. I purchased the cheapest mineral foundation I could find in the lightest color they had, I also used some white sparkly powder to pull off the vampire look. I had a blast doing my hair and makeup. I'm so glad I decided not to wear a wig.

You can't see it in this photo, but Sean has bite marks on his neck. He was dressed as my victim. Sean and Adiel
Almost the very first thing that happened when I got to the party was the necklace that I made broke, so that is why I'm not wearing it in any pictures. I also didn't get any pictures of the back of my skirt, which is my favorite part.

I kept taking my teeth out to talk because they made me lisp so I ended up dropping my teeth and they broke! I have to get them fixed before the costume parties on actual Halloween! I'm planning on dressing up at work even though I'll probably be the only one since Marrdy is gone now.

Working on my costume

So I don't think I ever mentioned that out of the choices I talked about earlier, I decided to do the vampire thing for my costume. I've been working on making a skirt for the costume for nearly two weeks. It's just about done. I have to put in the zipper and finalize the waist design and then I'll be done. I dug out the vampire fangs that my mother made me years ago and it still fits my mouth perfectly.

Now I have to think about the accessories.
I started keeping a Kaboodle list of all Vampire accessories I've seen in the last few days. Some I like, some not so much.

I might get some gloves or vampire jewelry to wear, but I'm not sure. I thought about getting a wig, but I don't really think I want to deal with the hassle that wigs can create. I'll probably just do my regular hairstyle.

I still need to find a top to wear with the skirt I made. The skirt is pencil style and high-waisted. In my head I imagined a sort of ruffled, higher collared top in a deep red color. However, in my search for this imagined top, I have not been able to find anything remotely similar to it. I'm running out of time, my first costume party is a week from this Saturday. I'd make a top like what I'm imagining, but I don't think I have the time to come up with a design/pattern and then construct the garment. Has anyone seen anything out there that like that I might be able to use?

I've also decided to make a cape. Not like the kind you'd buy from the costume store. In my mind I imagined a simple, shorter cape, no longer than my waist. I went to the fabric store to get material for this cape, but I couldn't decide on which fabric to buy. I couldn't decide if I should do red or black, sheer or opaque, lightweight or heavier. Any suggestions on a type of fabric I should use?

Finally, I'm excited about playing with some makeup ideas. Definitely some dramatic eyes and red lips.

I'm still undecided what sort of Vampire I want to be. A scary looking one or more of fashionable female Vampire.

This post is mostly me thinking out loud about my costume and what's left to be done on it. Of course I'd love to hear feedback from anyone on these thoughts.

What to do? Halloween...

I love Halloween. It's an excuse to dress up and I love to dress up. :)
I really wanted to make my costume this year, but haven't yet decided what to be so I can't start making anything.

A few years ago when my mom still worked at the dental office, she made me some really awesome vampire fangs, but I ended up not using them. I thought about using them this year and making a really awesome black/deep red dress. Another vampire costume option could be this costume:

I've seen it in person and I really liked it. My only problem is thanks to Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, Vampires will be everywhere this Halloween. I'm not sure how I feel about that...

I also saw this Cinderella costume on Kaboodle's Halloween Costumes section. Cinderella is one Disney Princess that I have not been before, so it kind of appeals to me.

I've also been wanting to do the Marie Antoinette costume for a few years now, but that can get so expensive. With the wig, shoes and dress. How fun would that be though?

I would love to be able to make a Marie Antoinette costume, but I don't think I've allowed myself enough time to make it. So then I wonder if I should save it for next year?

My stylist said that he and his friends are dressing up as polygamist wives and that I should be their husband, but unless I was with them, that costume just wouldn't make sense. So I kind of want to rule that out...

Basically, it's come down to the fact that I'm running out of time. What are your thoughts on what I should do?
