So long, farewell

Well, my first (and maybe last) year as a cheerleading coach has come to an end. Monday was the Goodbye Assembly. My girls performed together for the last time and then it was time to say goodbye. The administration presented us with a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a small token of thanks and well wishes.

Here is the video I took of them, I cut of the beginning on accident, but hopefully you get the idea.

I'm sad that I won't be coaching anymore, but my future is bound to have loads of exciting opportunities for me!

It's all over. Wait, no, it's just beginning.

Yesterday marked the end of a very long, tiring, fun, exciting week for me. This last week we held tryouts for next year's squad. Turn out to our first meet was pleasantly surprising. We had a lot of interest in the squad this year. We held workshops all week where this year's Seniors taught material to be performed for judges. Everything ran really smooth and after a long day of judging and tabulation yesterday, we now have a Varsity and a JV squad! I'm so very excited for what next year holds, but sad that my first year as a cheerleading coach is coming to and end. It'll be sad to see our Seniors go. Thanks to the judges and to Wendy! The whole process went well and I owe it to you!

Mini Cheer

Recently my girls held a mini cheer clinic as a fundraiser. They made up cheers and dances for three different age groups to perform at a basketball halftime.

My little step-sisters came to the "cheerleadering" clinics and had an absolute blast.

It was also really fun to see the shirts I designed running around all over the place.

Short on time

Sorry, I've been quite absent since my last post a week ago! I've had quite the busy week. I'm taking a quit little break to post this.

This week was Spirit Week at the school I coach at. All week at practice was spent preparing for the big spirit assembly.

The assembly was nothing short of wow. I've never seen anything like it. In high school, I always thought my school had a pretty spirited student body. Since I have started coaching, I have to say that this school's spirit outshines my high school every time.

I wanted to share these photos and videos so that you can all see just how awesome this student body is. We had to take a girl out of the routines last minute so unfortunately the routines weren't as polished as they could have been.

Another thing keeping me busy is the fact that I am moving! In fact, I'm probably moving as you read this. I've been busy organizing, cleaning and packing all week. I probably should have been purging as well, but I think I will wait till I unpack in my new place.

Wish me luck in my move, next time you hear from me, I'll be living in a brand new place!

Cheer competition

I'm not sure how I've neglected to mention this yet, but the girls I coach competed a couple weekends ago.

This is before they competed. Last-minute touch ups and waiting. Some excitement, some anxiety.

Photobucket

Unfortunately, I did not get a full video of them actually competing. I had forgotten to empty out my memory card. They did really well, didn't drop any stunts and I was super proud of them.

Photobucket

Friends and family made the trip to support me and watch my girls compete. What a great family I have, they'll come sit through hours of a competition when I'm not even the one performing anymore!

Photobucket

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect out of this experience, this being my first year as a cheerleader coach. All along I told myself not to get my hopes up.

Photobucket

Qualifying for nationals was the last thing on my mind, but sure enough, they qualified! I was so surprised that I started crying. Then they saw me and of course made fun of me. I deserved it though, who cries over that? I guess me!

Photobucket

I'm so proud of them for the work they put into the competition routine and for accomplishing what they did! All their hard work has paid off up to this point!

Freaky Friday

When the alarm went off Friday morning, something told me that I really should just stay in bed. I pressed snooze, but eventually my need to be responsible got me out of bed and out the door.

Due to some rather shocking events that morning, I am now in the need of a new full time job. I mention this in the hopes that maybe someone reading this might know of something. If you do, email me.

That afternoon was the first round of playoff football so I travel with Wendy and the girls we coach on a school bus up to Syracuse for the game. Since my mom lives so close to where game was being played, she, my grandma and my sister all came to watch the game. Sadly, we lost the game so football season is over for us this year.

Weekend recap

I know I'm late and at this point, most people probably don't care what I did this weekend, but for Marrdy's sake I'm gonna update you anyway.

Friday, I had to get off work early to ride the bus down to that night's football game with the squad. I tell you, forty-five minutes on a school bus in rush hour traffic can sure make a person sick. It wasn't too bad though because I had Gossip Girl on my iPod to occupy the time.

When we got to the school, we were walking onto the field and the first thing we see is a gigantic blow up tunnel for the team to go from the building to the field on. When they did finally come on to the field, there was smoke coming out of the entrance and dozens and dozens of balloons let go.

Next, we notice the have an AstroTurf field.

Then, we see a few of their cheerleaders walking down the track dragging big black boxes behind them. I could not for the life of me imagine what they were for. Once the game started, we had the answer.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, they were cheering on top of the boxes. Wendy made a great point when she asked, "Isn't the point of going to a football game to watch the football game? The cheerleaders are just an added bonus that are there to support. Shouldn't the cheerleaders not be blocking the crowd's view of the game?" Those probably aren't her exact words, but I think I summed up her point pretty well.

The entire game my mind was struggling to come up with how this idea was conceived and how anyone could possibly think it was a good idea. The most movement they could do with their feet was the basic step-touch. When they got off the boxes to dance, they struggled with the choreography. Wendy made the observation that they probably aren't used to using their feet when they cheer so maybe that is why they couldn't dance.

To confuse my brain even further, Wendy's sister who is also a high school cheer coach told her that she knew of a school that cheered standing on top of bar stools. I don't know about you, but that just sounds outright dangerous to me.

I think Wendy, in her infinite wisdom, summed it up best when she told me that she was glad that she coached at a school that didn't have much money so that they didn't forget what a football game is really about. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Saturday, I spent some time with my sister at our father's house while I made a necklace.

That evening, Sean and I went to the state fair. As we were walking up to the ticket booth, out of nowhere, this girl handed me two passes to get in. Talk about right place at the right time. We browsed the booths and displays, sampled the array of carnival food and decided against going on any of the rides. I had a great time people watching, state fairs bring out all kinds of people. I had an awesome time there.

After the fair, we browsed up the mall for a bit. I ended up with some cute knee socks and a pair of tights. Can't wait for the weather to cool down now so I can start wearing them

Sunday, Sean and I went out to breakfast. Later, we had Sunday dinner at his house.

I was kind of a slacker with the camera this weekend and have no other pictures to show you. I'm gonna have to try to be better with the photos this week. Also, I picked up my laptop from my brother. We wiped the hard drive, I kind of welcome the clean slate. However, no one can quite remember the password for the internet at my house, so until someone does, I'm still not really able to connect at home. Sadly, this means posts will be scarce from me.

I'll be back soon though, so stick around!
XOXO Adiel

Playing catch-up

As, I mentioned in my last post. I've kind of been wrapped up in enjoying the remainder of the warm summer days. Sadly, there are few left! I'm hopelessly behind on my Google feed reader, I don't think I'll ever catch up. If you want me to read your blog posts, the best way is to comment on my blog. I always visit the blogs of the people that comment on mine regularly.

Here are some of the things I've neglected to mention...

Last month, Sean's parents celebrated their 30th Anniversary. I was able to attend the surprise party that was thrown in their honor.

Here are some more pictures from my weekend in Colorado...

Here are some photos from the first football game that my girls cheered at.

Here are some photos from a camping trip Sean, Mike, Traci and I went on recently in San Rafael, Utah.

That is all for now!

Weekend recap

Wow, life has just kind of gotten away from me lately. I don't even know how I spend my time sometimes.

...that must mean it's time for a weekend recap!

Last weekend was the second football game of the season. The school my cheer girls are from played the high school that Wendy went to and which her sister now coaches cheer at, so it was kind of an exciting game. My girls, flying high from a stellar performance at the school earlier that day, really made me proud out there cheering their team on.

My mom, stepdad and sister came out to support me at the game. I did not plan well for the afternoon plans. Wearing a body-con dress and high heeled mary-janes didn't exactly equal comfortable attire to be climbing bleachers in. As predicted, my mom eyed my hemline and declared it too short. Gotta love my mom. :)

Our team won the game with ease! The season is looking good!

Saturday, I felt the urge to make something so I went out to the fabric store and ended up with some stuff to make some skirts. I finished one skirt late Saturday night. I think I'll be wearing it later this week so watch for that.

Sunday, Sean and I went out for some sushi. I'm not really a fan of seafood in general, but I got brave and tried some of Sean's vegas roll and ended upo really liking it. I was surprised. I just may have to try out some more sushi sometime.

Monday, the cold, wet weather ruined our plans to go to Raging Waters. Instead, Sean and I did some shopping before heading over to his parents' house for a Labor Day barbeque. Most of Sean's siblings were there and we had a good time hanging out and preparing dinner. After dinner, we played several rounds of volleyball in the freakish 50-something degree weather. I was so unbelievably cold! I'd like to blame my poor volleyball skills on that, but I don't think anyone would believe that.

After volleyball, Sean and I went to see Traitor. I had never heard of it till Sean suggested it, but I really ended up liking it. You do have to be in the mood for a serious movie and Sean made that comment that it was slower-paced than he had expected. After I got home from the movie, my night got really wild, but that is a story for another time, so watch for that!

I really enjoyed my long holiday weekend. I'll have to make time to post more often this week because I have a lot to share! Hope you all had a great weekend whether you were celebrating Labor Day or not.

Weekend recap.

I didn't really plan on doing much this weekend after what a long week I had been through. Emotionally and physically exhausted, I had just planned on curling up with Breaking Dawn all weekend and napping as I felt the need.

No such luck!

Sean ended up taking me out to dinner on Friday. We were at a sports bar so we managed to catch part of the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. I thought that their "cheerleaders" were interesting. I call them cheerleaders because it was pretty plain to me that that's what they were supposed to be. I say the pleated skirts were a dead giveaway. I did feel bad for them, step-clapping and spirit fingers for four hours in those boots can't have been fun, Olympics or no. Seeing Kobe Bryant's face on the screen over and over again made me want to throw up a little bit. Not to mention the fact that they were showing other athletes swooning all over him and getting their pictures taken with him. Ugh. Have a little self respect! Also, can someone tell me why everyone was wearing their white berets except for Carlos Boozer? George Bush was cute up there with his little American flag. I think that is it for my opening ceremonies commentary.

Saturday, my cheer girls had their first performance. I thought they did very well at it and I'm super proud of them!

Luckily, the storms took a break while they performed so they weren't rained on. I did get to see some awesome lighting later in the evening however.

Later that night, Sean and I went shoe shopping. Picky Sean couldn't find anything that was satisfactory to him and the mall is generally unsatisfactory for me these days. Everything I want is online! Then we hooked up with Mike and Traci to hang out. We watched a bit of the Olympics, got to See Michael Phelps get his first gold medal of this Olympics. Super exciting! Then Traci and I had our own Wii Olympics. I totally kicked her butt at Wii bowling for the first time, but she beat me at tennis. Mikey made us some delicious pasta and pancakes for a midnight snack.

Sunday, I finally got my wish and was able to finish Breaking Dawn and catch up on sleep.

On twhirl, misscedar posted "Wow this story is nuts: http://snurl.com/3d2rq"
Curious about nutty stories, I clicked through and read the story. Knowing Marrdy would be interested, I shared it with her. She likes to talk to herself so all of the sudden I hear her say, "Joyce McKinney? Isn't that the one that.... Oh my gosh!"
Silence...
"Oh my gosh! Kirk!"
Silence...
"Oh my gosh! I know them! I have to call Jane!"
Then she proceeds to have a lengthy conversation with Jane about this article.
Marrdy cracks me up.

Weekend recap, and then some.

Life has been pretty hectic for me. I haven't really had a free moment to sit down in front of the computer lately.

Last week was cheer camp for the squad that I'm the assistant coach of. It was decided that a private camp would be best for our squad this year. That took a lot of planning on Wendy's part, I'm completely amazed at her ability to pull something like this together. It went extremely well I think, I don't have anything like it to compare it to. We had several people come in a do stunting, tumbling and dance workshops. All of them were so great! We made it past the few bumps that generally arise in any cheer squad at camp. We made it through an ankle injury. I got through all the bad hip-hop they had to dance to and I also choreographed for the first time in like four years. The girls learned so much and I'm super proud of them. Can't wait to see whats to come from them throughout the rest of the year. Also, all you parents out there, I had a tiny taste of knowing what its like to have a teenager. I had twelve of them! Crazy!

[Stunting, I miss doing it...]

[The whole squad]

The weekend was pretty basic for me. Sean and I went out to dinner Friday night and ended up hanging out with Traci, Mike and Traci's family.

Saturday, I went to get my nails done and ended up getting a pedicure. I proceeded to mess it up as I got in the car to go to the pool. Leave it to me to do something lame like that. After the pool, Sean and I hung out. We watched Untraceable. Seriously, who thinks up this sick crap. Better question, why do I watch it? So gross!

Sunday, Sean and I went to The Original Pancake House. I love their food, so yummy. After that, I proceeded to read, fall asleep, and repeat. Three times. I guess I needed to catch up on some sleep considering I haven't been getting much lately. Once I finally got out of bed, Sean and I went to dinner at the Macaroni Grill. Funny story, we ordered fried mozzarella for our appetizer. When they brought our appetizer out, I thought it was strange that it came in little rings. I ate a piece anyway. I thought the texture and the taste seemed very off, but I wasn't sure so I had another. As I'm chewing the second piece, the waitress walked by and realized that someone had brought fried CALAMARI to our table instead of cheese. It all made sense, I knew that I knew that taste and it brought my right back to Mrs. Grossaint's biology class where she made us taste the fried squid we had just dissected. The best part was the look on Sean's face when he realized what he was eating. It was beyond hilarious, it made my whole weekend!

I've been pretty backed up at work with all the time I took off for cheer camp, the new responsibilities I've been having to learn and month end. I've been pretty tired after work and not been able to find time to get on the computer. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to catch up with all my blogging friends and see what they've been up to in the last two weeks!

Weekend recap.

Another weekend, come and gone!

Friday after work, I had to go find a dress to wear to Steph's wedding. I headed for the Gateway and started out at Forever 21. I actually ended up finding a lot of stuff to try on there. I narrowed it down to two dresses (this or that with this belt). I decided on the black dress with the belt, but as I was standing in line, I found another black dress that looked cute. I decided to buy it without trying it on. I left with the two dresses, the belt, a clutch and and a vest.

Next, I went to Urban Outfitters in search of a certain dress. I couldn't seem to find it, but I did walk past a pair of Lux Cigarette Leg gray jeans. I've been wanting to buy a pair for a while now, so I tried them on and ended up getting them. I thought that they were a pair that was on my wishlist, but turns out the pair that I bought aren't available online. I had a hard time deciding on whether or not I should keep them because there was another pair on my wishlist that I really wanted. Just barely today I decided that I will keep them.

After shopping, I met up with Phil. We went out to dinner at The Dodo and then we went to see You Don't Mess With The Zohan. Oh. My. Lame. Honestly, I laughed a little, but most of the time I was shaking my head and rolling my eyes. Really, I could've gone the rest of my life without seeing Adam Sandler thrusting his stuffed crotch that much. It was also way too long. Two hours is pretty long for a comedy, I kept thinking, "Man this is a long movie!" So, yeah, I'd recommend skipping this one.

Saturday, I had to go to the cheer girls' car wash. The weather was alright. It was one of those days that it was warm in the sun, but cold in the shade. Whenever the clouds were covering the sun, it was so cold. I felt bad for the girls because they had to get wet and wash cars. I just sat huddled in my blanket most of the time. They did well though, it was nice to see so many people come out and support them.

That night I went to Steph's wedding reception. It was fun to see people that I don't see on a regular basis and get a chance to chat. The colors were black and red, Steph had picked out these super cute black dresses with white polka dots. They all wore red jewelry and shoes, it was so cute! I didn't have my camera so when I steal pictures from Nicole, I'll post them up for everyone to see.

Sunday, I finally got caught up with the rest of Season 4 of The Office. The finale was awesome. There were a ton of OMG moments, I can't wait for the next season now! Sean and I went for brunch and then we browsed around Cabela's. I found out that they have their own restaurant there, which I found mildly strange. Later, we went to see Iron Man, which I ended up really liking.

Thursday recap!

Usually I recap just my weekends because my weekdays are usually just filled with work. That can get pretty repetitive in a hurry!

Yesterday was a little out of the ordinary and quite fun. I had to leave my main job early to go to the stunt safety clinic that the U of U cheerleaders put on. The little coaches' meeting nearly scared me half to death, but I'm mostly over it now. The girls did quite well with their stunting and I'm super proud of them.

The best part of the clinic is when we were leaving, Wendy, Jessica and I walked past some cheerleaders from HJH, which all three of us cheered at. Being silly I yelled, "Go HJH!" as we walked past them. Then Wendy told them that the three of us had cheered there and I told them to look us up in the library. (The tradition at HJH is that the SBO's and Cheerleaders have their pictures put up in the library.) Then as we walked away, the three of us decided to see if we could remember the school song and dance, which we kind of did remember. So we' did the school song from junior high in the middle of the parking lot. We are SO cool! ;)

Later, Wendy and I had to meet with the girls and their parents. It was my first time meeting most of their parents so it was a little intimidating. Its lucky that I work with Wendy, because she is awesome with all that stuff. I definitely have a lot to learn from her.

One totally funny thing is that the girls all call my "Addy" because the can't or don't want to try to say my name.

-Lunch with everyone at work. Even though it was a sad occasion, I still had a blast all talking and laughing together.

-Discover that I can still ride a bike.

-The girls' progress at tumbling.

-The fact that "things that made my day" is catching on.

-Strangely enough, the rain.

-My new pants.

Weekend recap.

So I had a pretty busy weekend. You might have noticed due to the lack of updates on here.

Friday night, Sean and I went to our favorite dinner spot for some yummy chinese. After dinner we received our fortune cookies. I have heard somewhere that you're supposed to eat the fortune cookie before you read the fortune, so I follow that rule. However Sean was for some reason rushing me to read my fortune. I gobbled up my cookie and read my fortune. It read, "You and your wife will be happy in your life together." I told Sean what it said and he laughed and said, "You're joking right?" I replied that I was not joking, that apparently I was a lesbian. He told me he got the exact same fortune and that he had thought it was funny that his fortune mentioned wife, given the events of the last few weeks.

Saturday morning was beautiful. The weather was super nice, therefore it was a lovely day to be at the MS Walk. My cheer girls were volunteering at the walk. So we spent the morning enjoying the blue sky outside at The Gateway. It was really nice to see how many people showed up there to participate in the walk.

Later on Saturday, I went up to Park City with some girlfriends. We went out to dinner at Squatters and went dancing at Harry O's. The night was super fun despite some minor drama that involved losing my car key and the condo key. Luckily, and I never thought I'd say this, one of the girls had gone out on the balcony to have a smoke and accidentally left the door open. Because of that, we were able to get back into the condo. There was still the matter of me not having a way to drive home in the morning, so Sean was nice enough to rescue us by going to my house, finding my spare key and driving it up to me in Park City. He is so awesome and I'm lucky to have him. Thanks to him I was able to drive back down to the valley and enjoy a beautiful Sunday.
Pictures from this night to come...

I went and visited at my dad's house where my little brother was showing of his collection of nerf weaponry.

Later I went to Sean's for sunday dinner. After dinner we all spent some time outside where I ended up playing catch with Sean's brother in high heels. The funniest part of that was Sean's sister thought that I played softball until she saw me throw. The best way to describe how I throw would be "like a girl".

Good times!

A day in the life...

So today has been a strange one for me.

Last night I stayed up really late talking with a certain someone. I'm pretty sure I feel into a non-continuous sleep around 1 am. Now, this is late for me on a regular day, but today was a different kind of day for me. Today was my first day assistant coaching a cheer squad. Practice for this team is at 6 am, so I had to be out of bed by 4:15 am. You can do the math for that, you'll only need one hand to figure out how much sleep I got. So needless to say, I'm tired.

The next unusual circumstance, the weather. I have the weather sent to my phone every evening. It usually pretty accurate, however their forecast for today was a high of 49 and partly cloudy. Yeah, I didn't know it was going to snow. What a fun surprise! The roads were a mess on the way to practice. I was pretty nervous so I was taking it slow, but people were following me much too close for comfort and then passing me so I got off that road as to not impede traffic. My alternative route turned out to be relatively free of cars at that early morning hour, however it was not plowed. I was cruising along comfortably when all of the sudden I no longer had control of my car. I was rapidly sliding of the road towards the curb. My thoughts: "Oh crap, I don't want to fix this piece of crap car again!" Luckily, right as I was about to go up and over the curb into a fence and possibly into a house, I regained control. I was still shaking after I was safely in the gym at practice. I averted disaster!

Practice also turned out to be great. I was a little nervous for many reasons, but there was no need for nervousness. Wendy is an extremely organized and intelligent person and that makes it easy to work under her. It was fun to see this new squad learning and working together for the first time. They made a lot of progress for even just one day. It was great! I'm really looking forward to the next practice.

...but now, its 4 pm and I'm burnt out for today. Guess what? I still get to go to panty hell tonight though. Don't be jealous!
