Oh Barf

On the way back from a Starbucks run with Sarah and Maria today, I had the absolute misfortune of hearing Jason Derulo make a complete mockery of Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek. According to Sarah, this song has actually been on the scene for quite some time, but as I've made it a habit to avoid the radio, today was my first(and I hope last!) time to hear it.

I cannot believe that the powers that be allowed "musician" Jason Derulo take a beautiful song, cRAP all over it and turn it into what he calls "Whatcha Say."

Ugh.

What disturbs me the most is that the uneducated audience probably thinks he came up with the best part of the song all by himself.

Two thumbs down Jason.
Way down.

Song of the day - Lightness

Haven't done one of these in a while, but recently I've been re-falling in love with my favortie Death Cab For Cutie album, Transatlanticism. I think every song on this album is fantastic, but today I've especially been loving the song "Lightness".

Look:
Lightness - Death Cab For Cutie
There's a tear in the fabric of your favorite dress
And i'm sneaking glances.
Looking for the patterns in static
They start to make sense the longer i'm at it.

Ivory lines lead
Oo wha-ho, oo wha-ho

Your heart is a river that flows from your chest
Through every organ
Your brain is the dam
And i am the fish who can't reach the cord.

Ivory lines lead
Oo wha-ho, oo wha-ho

Oh, instincts are misleading
You shouldn't think what you're feeling
They don't tell you what you know you should want.

Ivory lines lead
Oo wha-ho, oo wha-ho
[x2]

Oh, instincts are misleading
You shouldn't think what you're feeling
They don't tell you want you know you should want.

Ivory lines lead
Oo wha-ho.

Song of the day - I Will Remain

Long time Old 97's lover here. I adore Rhett Miller's voice and the music is lovely. The song I've been loving lately is I Will Remain off of their latest album Blame It On Gravity. I don't have much else to say on it other than I think it is great.

I could only find this video of a live performance of the song or else you can listen to it on last.fm.

I Will Remain - Old 97's
this is more than I can tolerate the kind of pain you've got to medicate
I can't remember why I couldn't wait to get so close to you
try to call you on the telephone you never answer but I know you're home
I wonder why I'm so all alone while I'm so close to you

I will remain I will remain right here outside your door
I will remain I will remain here forever

oh girl you are a problem still you know I love you and I always will
throw a rock up on a window sill baby come down
god I'm feeling like a wannabe I only wanna make her notice me
make her love me on a count of three I am counting it down

I will remain I will remain right here outside your door
I will remain I will remain here forever

I am infatuated with you but you don't know that I exist
sat in the rain and I waited for you

this is more than I can tolerate the kind of pain you've got to medicate
I can't remember why I couldn't wait to get so close to you
oh I'm so close to you

I will remain I will remain right here outside your door
I will remain I will remain here forever
I will remain I will remain here forever

Song of the day - Black & Gold

This probably isn't a very typical thing, but have you ever listened to a song that just makes you want to dance? Perform?

This happens to me sometimes. Lately, Black and Gold by Sam Sparro has been putting the dancing itch in me. By dancing, I mean performing. I can almost see the choreography unfolding on the stage. I need to get into a dance class.

Take a listen, does it make you want to dance too?

Black & Gold - Sam Sparro
Black and Gold - Sam Sparro
If a fish swam out of the ocean
And grew legs and they started walking
And the apes climbed down from the trees
And grew tall and they started talking

And the stars fell out of the sky
And my tears rolled into the ocean
Now I'm looking for a reason why
You even set my world into motion

'Cause if you're not really here
Then the stars don't even matter
Now i'm filled to the top with fear
That it's all just a bunch of matter
'Cause if you're not really here
Then i don't want to be either
I wanna be next to you
Black and gold
Black and gold
Black and gold

I looked up into the night sky
And see a thousand eyes staring back
And all around these golden beacons
I see nothing but black

I feel a way of something beyond them
I don't see what i can feel
If vision is the only validation
Then most of my life isn't real

'Cause if you're not really here
Then the stars don't even matter
Now I'm filled to the top with fear
That it's all just a bunch of matter
'Cause if you're not really here
Then i don't want to be either
I wanna be next to you
Black and gold
Black and gold
Black and gold
x2

Song of the day - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here

If you haven't heard of She & Him by now, then shame on you. Just kidding, but you are missing out. Zooey just has such a lovely voice. Have a listen to Why Do You Let Me Stay Here. I dare you not to fall in love too.

Why Do You Let Me Stay Here? - She and Him

She & Him - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here
Why do let me stay here?
All by myself
Why don't you come and play here?
I'm just sitting on the shelf

Why don't you sit right down and stay awhile?
We like the same things and I like your style
Its not a secret; why do you keep it?
I'm just sitting on the shelf

I got to get your presence
Let's make it known
I think you're just so pleasant
I would like you for my own

Why don't you sit right down and make me smile? (uh huh)
You make me feel like I am just a child
Why do you end it?
Just give me credit

I'm just sitting on the shelf

Song of the day - Coming To Terms

I haven't done a song of the day in a while. Here is one that has been on my list of favorites for a while now.

Carolina Liar is a band that I've been loving and one of my favorite songs of theirs is Coming To Terms. I love the vocals and the lyrics. The song has such feeling behind it. Have a listen.

Coming to Terms - Carolina Liar

Coming To Terms - Carolina Liar
Oh no, it’s not me
I just forgot to tell you
Didn’t mean, it seems obscene
We just lost track along the way
CHORUS
I’m coming to terms
I’m starting to learn
This ain’t all it’s cracked up to be
’Cause I’m using you, you’re using me
It’s never as easy as we believe
’Cause this hurts, I can’t leave
I understand, but can you
I’m just scared, you’re lonely
Everyone knows you’re better than me
CHORUS
I’m coming to terms
I’m starting to learn
This ain’t all it’s cracked up to be
’Cause I’m using you, you’re using me
It’s never as easy as we believe
Is this what you need?
Am I what you need?
CHORUS
I’m coming to terms
I’m starting to learn
This ain’t all it’s cracked up to be
’Cause I’m using you, you’re using me
It’s never as easy as we believe
Na na na na…

Tunes for my morning.

I woke up this morning with the song Super Freak running through my head over and over.

Why?
I have no idea.

It lasted the entire time that it took to get ready for my morning jog.
When I got back from my jog, the song had changed
to....

*drumroll*
You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch.

What is going on in my brain?!
Seriously.

A rant about your music, but not an attack.

It started when I was myspace obsessive, on that site in every spare moment I had. The option to have a song play on your profile was introduced. Great, I like music, I like to share my musical interest. Not great, the song started automatically when loading the page. My problem with this comes in two parts. First, If I'm on my computer, I'm already listening to my own music. When other music starts playing on top of mine, its hugely annoying and frankly, a little rude. No one likes to be interrupted or spoken over. Second, in my opinion, the majority of the population has relatively lousy taste in music. Keep in mind, this is only and opinion I have. Myspace eventually introduced the option to not play the music until you click play. Great. Fantastic. Thanks myspace for solving that problem.

Now that I've moved on from the myspace obsession to blogging, I've started encountering this problem again, alarmingly more and more frequently. When I'm leisurely reading blogs as I listen to my music, I'm constantly being surprised with other music interrupting my own music. Most commonly, Its from a playlist.com widget. Great. I think its fine that you like music and want to share your favorite songs with your friends/readers. Perfect. I'm not presuming to tell you to stop doing so.

Here is what I think about the widget. I know nothing about playlist.com, but it appears that there is not an option to not automatically start playing music when the page loads. I find this very agitating. I really hope that if this is indeed an option, you will all take a minute to select this option for your playlist if you have one. If not, this is a plead with playlist.com to make this option available. Honestly, without that option, it almost makes me want to move along to some other blog/site without reading what you have to say.

I've been having this particular rant on my mind for a few years now. I've put off sharing it for the reason that I've been worried it would come across as an attack to anyone with music on their website, page, blog, etc. This is not my intent. I simply want to share my point of view so that you might see why some people might not like it. Let me compare it to video ads that start playing on a website you're visiting. Annoying, right?

Counter-point anyone?

Song of the day - When You're Gone

I was listening to my station on last.fm today and When You're Gone by The Cranberries came on. I used to LOVE that song in high school.

When You're Gone - The Cranberries
Hold onto love that is what I do now that I've found you.
And from above everything's stinking, they're not around you.

And in the night, I could be helpless,
I could be lonely, sleeping without you.

And in the day, everything's complex,
There's nothing simple, when I'm not around you.

But I'll miss you when you're gone, that is what I do. Hey, baby!
And it's going to carry on, that is what I do. Hey, baby...

Hold onto my hands, I feel I'm sinking, sinking without you.
And to my mind, everything's stinking, stinking without you.

Song of the day - Paperweight

Haven't done song of the day in a while, thought I'd do one today.

If you've ever seen The Last Kiss, you've probably heard the song Paperweight before. Performed by Joshua Radin and Schuyler Fisk, Paperweight is on my list of all time favorite songs. Its a really sweet song that I hope everyone can relate to at least once in their life. Schuyler and Joshua are a couple, which is quite obvious in a sweet way when you see them perform live, which I did a little over a year ago. I was too shy about getting pictures with them, but here are pictures I took of my friend Jon with Joshua and then Schuyler.
[What a couple of down to earth people]

Paperweight - Joshua Radin and Schuyler Fisk
Been up all night staring at you
Wondering what's on your mind
I've been this way with so many before
But this feels like the first time
You want the sunrise to go back to bed
I want to make you laugh
Mess up my bed with me
Kick off the covers I'm waiting
Every word you say I think
I should write down
Don't want to forget come daylight
Happy to lay here
Just happy to be here
I'm happy to know you
Play me a song
Your newest one
Please leave your taste on my tongue
Paperweight on my back
Cover me like a blanket
Mess up my bed with me
Kick off the covers I'm waiting
Every word you say i think
I should write down
Don't want to forget come daylight
And no need to worry
That's wastin' time
And no need to wonder
What's been on my mind
It's you
It's you
It's you
Every word you say I think
I should write down
Don't want to forget come daylight
And I give up
I let you win
You win cause I'm not counting
You made it back
To sleep again
Wonder what you're dreaming

Dead iPod?

I think my iPod is dying.

I've got it plugged into my computer and listen to it through iTunes, like I do every work day. Today, I hear an unfamiliar beeping noise. I search my desk only to find its coming from my iPod. I look closer and see this:

[It reads: No battery power remains. Please connect iPod to power]

When this happens, it disconnects itself from my computer thus my music ceases to play. After several minutes, it reconnects itself. I start to play my music. After a few minutes the cycle starts over with the beeping.

Mike recommended resetting it so I tried that, but it hasn't helped.
If it's dead, I'll be ever so sad!

Has anything like this ever happened to you? Any suggestions on what may be wrong?

I HAVE to have music at work though, so I decided to go ahead and pay for a month's subscription to Last.fm.

Song of the day - The Way

Today's song of the day is kind of different. This isn't a song that I particularly love or anything, I just had a story to share about it, so I thought that I'd do so through song of the day...

-----

Over the weekend we were listening to the satellite radio on the boat and the DJ came on and started talking about this song that was conceived after reading about actual events. I was listening to her speak, only half interested. Then the song came on...

Do you remember the song The Way by Fastball?
Yeah, that was it.

This excerpt from the wikipedia entry for "The Way" is pretty much word for word what the DJ said.

"The Way" revolves around an older married couple who decide to give it all away by packing up and going driving and drinking. Along the way, their car breaks down, so they continue on foot. As the song goes on, it becomes apparent that these two achieve happiness by losing touch with the world.

Fastball bassist Tony Scalzo came up with the idea for the song after reading journalistic articles which described the disappearance of an older married couple, Raymond and Lela Howard from Salado, Texas, who left home in June of 1997 to attend a family reunion but never arrived[1]. They were discovered two weeks later, dead, at the bottom of a ravine near Hot Springs, Arkansas, hundreds of miles off their intended route[2].

About the song, Scalzo said that "It's a romanticized take on what happened" - he "pictured them taking off to have fun, like they did when they first met."

Kinda changes everything about the way you think about that song, doesn't it?

Fastball - The Way
They made up their minds
And they started packing
They left before the sun came up that day
An exit to eternal summer slacking
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?
They drank up the wine
And they got to talking
They now had more important things to say
And when the car broke down they started walking
Where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Chorus:

Anyone could see the road that they walk on is paved in gold
And its always summer, they'll never get cold
They'll never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They wont make it home
But they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They're happy there today , today

The children woke up
And they couldn't find em
They left before the sun came up that day
They just drove off
And left it all behind em
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Anyone could see the road that they walk on is paved in gold
And its always summer, they'll never get cold
They'll never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They wont make it home
But they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They're happy there today , today (repeat)

Hear a live version of the song here.

Song of the day - Get Your Way

I love everything about this Get Your Way by Jamie Cullum. I love his voice, I love the lyrics, I love the piano. For me, its got it all!

Jamie Cullum - Get Your Way
Dinner at eight, that sounds fine,
I suppose that means you'll turn up 'round nine.
Bought a bunch of flowers, just for her,
She says the burden's on the receiver.

I opened the door and you walked in,
(Sniff) The scent of wild jasmine.
The room, seemed to freeze in time,
My regular table will be just fine.

Radiant and elegant, you might be
But your concentration is so go-lightly
Both of your eyes reflecting the moon,
You really think you own the room.

[CHORUS:]
So What Game Shall We Play Today?
How About The One Where You Don't Get Your Way?
But Even If You Do,
That's Okay.
So What Game Shall We Play Today?
How About The One Where You Don't Get Your Way?
But Even If You Do,
That's Okay.

Try to pick it up, reading the signs,
It's turning out to be a real good time,
And who'd have thought that entertainment,
Lies in the winter of your discontent.

Now, sit at the table, face to face,
Queen takes pawn, check or checkmate!
I feel your foot brush against my leg,
I'm not that easily led.

You flutter your eyes and you toss your hair,
I have to say that it is kind of unfair,
Let me tell you baby now what's in store,
You win the battle, but I'll win the war!

[CHORUS]

This has been fun, I suppose,
Although my feelings are all juxtaposed,
But truth be told, I'm as fickle as hell,
But gentlemen never kiss and tell!

[CHORUS]

Song of the day - Glass Windows

Oh how I love Glass Windows by We Shot the Moon. I had no idea that Waking Ashland had split up until I heard We Shot the Moon's new album, but WStM has the same singer as Waking Ashland. That would explain why I love the vocals because I love Jonathan Jones' voice!

Glass Windows - We Shot The Moon
I am stuck in a window
That I can't ever close
I've been running on empty
on a long one way road

Cuz, it's not that bad
the sun rose again
take what we have and try again

because I love you, oh
more thank you know
there's nothing in this world
that could make me let go
its that I love you, oh
more than you know,
there’s nothing in this world
that could make me let go

You’re the rose
I'm the petal
I keep on falling from you
When I wake in the morning
its your face that pulls me through
It's not that bad
the sun rose again
take what we have and try again

because I love you, oh
more thank you know
there's nothing in this world
that could make me let go
its that I love you, oh
more than you know,
there’s nothing in this world
that could make me let go

You stand so far from me
I'm the ghost you don't see
I painted sky spells our names
and I know something you don't

It’s that I love you, oh
more than you know
there's nothing in this world
that could make me let go
It’s that I love you, oh
More than you know,
There’s nothing in this world
That could make me let go

It’s that I love you, oh
more thank you know
there's nothing in this world
that could make me let go
It’s that I love you, oh
More than you know, (something that’s true)
There’s nothing in this world
That could make me let go

It’s that I love you, oh
more thank you know
there's nothing in this world
that could make me let go
It’s that I love you, oh
More than you know, (something that’s true)
There’s nothing in this world
That could make me let go

Song of the day - Now That We're Done

I heard Now That We're Done by Metro Station on my iPod today and it never fails to make me laugh a little. Look for a repeating line of the lyrics that just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the lyrics...

Now That We're Done - Metro Station
everybody get down

she's just a friend, you see
you always agree
you know i lie but you still trust me
and you believed with so much hope
but i'm the one who let you go

now that we're done i'm so sorry
why did i lie i'm so sorry
i know i hurt you
i know i hurt you x2

woo oh oh oh
everybody get down x2

you still call my phone
cause you still want me
i'll tell my friends you're so annoying
you'll cry and curse when you're alone
but laugh and flirt when we're on the phone

now that we're done i'm so sorry
why did i lie i'm so sorry
i know i hurt you
i know i hurt you x4

woo oh oh oh
everybody get down x2

everybody get down

now i see you with him
it was nothing like i thought it'd be
i'll break down
for you

now that we're done i'm so sorry
why did i lie i'm so sorry
i know i hurt you
i know i hurt you x3

woo oh oh oh
everybody get down x2

everybody get down

Song of the day - Diabolic Scheme

I think this song would make the list of "All time favorite songs" if I had such a list.
Listen to it.
You might like it.
You might not.
I do.

Diabolic Scheme - The Hives
Alive!
Dead!
I was inside your head
Had time well, spent, I got your mind well bent
Snuck back into shade
Oooooooo ooooooo
You searched the globe for them perfect looks
And you searched for answers in all your books
And finally by diabolic ascent here I am

Said it's just a diabolic
A diabolic scheme
Diabolic scheme (x2)

That's me all right like purity white, and like viciousness black
I give a little then I take it back
Can you take it?
Oooooooooooooooooo can you take it? Yeah!!!
Oooooooooo
So what's the attraction? The suckers sing
Profilic depth or static cling?
Well from greatness to greatness is where I span
You have me for a moment grab on while you can

Said it's just a diabolic
A diabolic scheme
Diabolic scheme (x2)

Diabolic
Diabolic scheme
Ooooo, oo, ooooo
Ooooo, oo, ooooo
Thank you!

Here it here.
Buy it there.

Song of the day - Mercy

Its no secret that I'm in love with Duffy's music. The song Mercy is one that is in heavy rotation for me right now. Check it out...

Duffy Lyrics
Mercy Lyrics

Thanks for the validation.

After my last concert experience, I vowed to never go to a show again. I like music way too much to subject myself to that bull ever again.

After talking to other people, I was left only to assume that people that go to shows generally have no respect (or intelligence). Thats obviously a gross generalization, but you get the point...

Then I read this today....
I now feel completely validated.

"10 Worst Ways To Behave At Concerts: How You're Ruining It For Everyone
May 2, 2008

The other day I took a look at my positively RAMMED spring/summer concert calendar and my left nostril promptly flared to the size of a grapefruit. Concert season is a time for excitement, but at the same time it's a time for frustration and cynicism. These days you have to brace yourself for an experience easily ruined by the fans themselves, who (from what I've seen) have become a rude and unruly lot entirely unaware of everyone else's personal space. I now present you with ten rules that people blatantly disobey, or, ways that you're ruining it for everyone else.

1. Recording the show or incessantly taking photos with your cell phone. I honestly don't know why people do this. The photo quality of the majority of cell phones is terrible. I certainly didn't pay $30-100 for my ticket just to watch it through a 3x2 inch screen with your extended arm as an obstruction, why did you? Are you honestly ever going to look at those photos again? And when you do, will you even be able to recognize the tiny speck that's centre stage as Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys? Will you be able to tell you're at a Spice Girls reunion concert instead of the New Kids On the Block reunion concert? No. Ditto for people who record entire songs on a shitty camera for future uploading to YouTube. 90% of these videos are unwatchable. Check out this "sweet" four-and-a-half minute footage from a recent Yelle show that someone shot and uploaded for our viewing pleasure. In case you couldn't make it out, the song Yelle's performing in the clip is "Je Veux Te Voir".

2. Waiting until the show has started to secure your spot in the front row. People line up outside general admission venues hours, sometimes even DAYS, before the show in order to snag that prime spot from which to enjoy a show that they've likely been waiting to see for much longer than you. In the Land of the Fair, It's called waiting your f**king turn. So when one is rammed at the front, standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of sweaty mouth breathers is uncomfortable enough without your conga line of friends charging through the crowd claiming, "Oh, my friend's up there!". It's like when you're late for a movie and making a huge production of finding a seat after the lights have gone down. It's rude. And no, if you've scored a front row spot, you cannot ever leave to use the washroom or get a drink. You've sealed your fate - you'll never make your way back.

"Hey! Can you hear this? It's Pearl Jam. This is what you're missing. Wish you were here. OMG do you hear? They're playing Even Flow. Listen!!" *puts phone up to speaker*

3. Talking throughout the entire show. Speaking of rude: No one's saying you have to stand there like a wax statue with your arms folded, intently concentrating on every lyric and chord. But we could do without the people who feel the need to constantly natter to their friends throughout the show, especially at smaller shows where the band can HEAR you not paying attention. There have even been shows where the band stopped playing to ask people to STFU. Embarrraaaaaassssing! It's like people who talk in class...why are you even there? Go stand at the back near the bar if you want to chat.

4. Being over 6'4 and choosing to stand in front of the shortest person in the crowd. You can't fault people for being tall (or too short), but why does the tallest person usually have a complete disregard for where they're standing? If you see a 5'0 tall girl, don't stand directly in front of her. Maybe kneel? Maybe lop off your legs at the shins? Or better yet, maybe just stand behind her? The same goes for girls who insist on sitting on their boyfriends' shoulders for the duration of the show. The band might appreciate it when you show them your boobies, but the entire audience behind you will just think you're a boob. Thanks for blocking my view, dink.

5. Continually crowd surfing or slam dancing even though it's not that kind of show. You can only be dropped straight to the ground and then hoisted back up so many times by your fellow concert-goers before it gets exhausting for everyone involved. Some people are actually trying to enjoy themselves and not worry about getting an errant boot or elbow to the head while trying to gently guide you towards safety. Save it for Lollapalooza or some other monster UK festival. Ditto to people who mosh and slamdance at shows like Crystal Castles or Klaxons. Don't make me show you the black eye I got at a seemingly "tame" Malajube show.

6. Being an unruly lout. Everyone knows all about the one dude who stands at the back of the venue and yells "WOOO! YES!!!" during the band's between-song banter and at the start of every song, regardless of whether he can recognize it. What's worse is when that dude brings along all of his rabblerousing buddies, and they get to the venue early to get their drink on. By the time the show starts they're slurring their words and sloshing their drinks, bumping into people and stomping on toes. Get a hold of yourselves, people! Try to make it to the encore without blacking out, please.

7. Spastic dancing and general disregard for personal space. We know you wanna dance. And we WANT you to dance and have a good time. But take a moment to look around and size up the amount of space you have to work with and adjust your movement accordingly. If it's Daft Punk and everyone's going ballastic, go ahead and join in. If the crowd's tightly packed and there's no room to dance, bop along, maybe try to start a mini-dance party, but now's not the time to start flipping your hair like a stripper, breakdancing or practising the Soulja Boy dance.

8. Holding up a sign or flag for the duration of the show. This practice is especially popular at any British indie band show. Suddenly everyone's a raving fan of the Union Jack and has brought along a humongous silk flag to prove it. Not only that, but they want to make sure the band is aware of their nationalism. Then you have the people who write deeply personal messages for the band on bristolboard and hold it up in the hopes that the guitarist will fall in love with them. Nope - the only thing you'll feel from behind is hate.

9. Standing at a seated venue. Look, I go to a lot of shows. Almost all of them are general admission/standing. I look forward to sitting at the 10% of venues that have seats. So for the love of god, please don't LEAP out of your seat the moment the band hits the stage and remain standing for the entire set. Stand for a couple of songs and then sit back down. The domino effect is really strong on this one - it's kind of hard to convince an entire audience to sit down, and once one row is up, others are sure to follow, meaning anyone who's too tired or short to see anything while standing won't get to see anything if they stay in their seats.

10. Waiting till the band plays their radio hit and then leaving . A lot of times the band comes to town early in their career and they already know that you only came to see them for one song. But humour them and feign some interest in the rest of their material - it's all near and dear to them; it just happens that one of their songs is being pimped out by their label or the local radio station. Several tours later, they're probably already sick of playing it anyway, and want you to latch onto something new. If they haven't saved it for the encore, after which there would be a natural exit break, don't start a mass exodus out of the venue. The other songs might crash and burn, but emergency exits should only be used in case of actual fire.

Anything else that's ruining your live show experience that I've missed here?"

Song of the day - Suicide Medicine

There is just something about Suicide Medicine by Rocky Votolato that I really like. I don't know if the vocals or the actual music, but I can't stop listening to it.

Suicide Medicine - Rocky Votolato
A brain that never stops ticking,
sometimes an on-off switch would sure come in handy
A mind that's constantly cutting up and dissecting,
looking for answers, committing murders along the way

Is it the red wire, or the blue wire
just pick one and cut, it just doesn't matter anymore
or did it ever, cause I could never control
when the bomb would explode
Oh god I love you, I mean forever
I left my body behind to break the news
looks like it's over, please remember
all of the things I never got a chance to say
like you look smashing in your fourth grade picture,
the one that we hung by the door,
in our house that was so beautiful
Yeah, here in our little home

If this medication upsets your stomache,
take it with crackers, bread, or a small meal
We understand it won't do sh!t towards a cure
But if you buy this, I promise you're gonna like
the way it makes you feel

Is it the red wire, or the blue wire
just pick one and cut, it just doesn't matter anymore
or did it ever, cause I could never control
when the bomb would explode
Oh god I love you, I mean forever
I left my body behind to break the news
looks like it's over, please remember
all of the things I never got a chance to say
like you look smashing in your fourth grade picture,
the one that we hung by the door,
in our house that was so beautiful
Yeah, here in our little home
Our little home, nobody knows,
our little home, nobody knows what goes on
Our little home

I think The Pretenders are great and I love their music, but I really can't get over Lily Allen's version of Don't Get Me Wrong. I love her voice in it and I love the bouncy beat. I kinda can't help but smile and dance a bit to this song.

Song of the day - Happy

Some days you really have those moments where things get put in to perspective for you and for a fleeting moment you can appreciate the blessings that you do have instead of the things that you long for.

The song Happy by Natasha Bedingfield off her album Pocketful of Sunshine kind of emulates that thought. So its my song of the day!

My new jacket!

First off, thank you to everyone that voted on the "Help Me Choose". I went with the motorcycle jacket. Heather with Bona Drag told me that she'd be shipping the jacket to me on 5/7, so naturally I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up yesterday.

I loved the addition of the Bona Drag mixtape volume three. It is full of great music!

Song of the day - Seasons Change

The last few months have brought so much change to my life, both professionally and personally. With so much change going on, I found it appropriate to name Seasons Change by Susie Suh as song of the day.

Susie Suh - Seasons Change
Seasons change
They change when you don't seem to notice
All of a sudden, wind grows cold
And then the snowflakes start to fall
It's kinda like when fell in love with you
I, I didn't even notice when you didn't love me anymore
There's a blue, there's a blue sky on my left and a pink sky on my right
And I'm driving down the 92 where the bridge looks like it touches the sky
And I'm thinking to myself
Where did all the time go
And why cant I remember
What it was like when I was young
Seasons change
And you grow a little older
Nothing stays the same
The past becomes the future
Seasons change
And you grow a little older
No one stays the same
And my heart grows a little colder
I'm standing in a parking lot
Of some suburban shopping mall
And I'm dressed in my work uniform making friends with all
The vacant cars
And I'm thinking to myself
I gotta make a big decision today and I hope I choose a better tomorrow
Rather then a better yesterday
Seasons change
And you grow a little older
Nothing stays the same
The past becomes the future
Seasons change
And you grow a little older
No one stays the same
And my heart grows a little warmer
My heart turns a little warmer
Everything turns it turns it turns it turns
Seasons change
And you grow a little wiser
Nothing stays the same
The past becomes the future
Seasons change
Only the cherry blossoms they bloom again (x2)
They will bloom, they will bloom

Song of the day - World Spins Madly On

I've loved The Weepies for a really long time. Their song World Spins Madly On has been a favorite for just as long. I realized that this song mirrors my life right now. For this reason, I'm going to make it song of the day.

The Weepies - World Spins Madly on
Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
I thought of you and where you'd gone
and let the world spin madly on

Everything that I said I'd do
Like make the world brand new
And take the time for you
I just got lost and slept right through the dawn
And the world spins madly on

I let the day go by
I always say goodbye
I watch the stars from my window sill
The whole world is moving and I'm standing still

Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
The night is here and the day is gone
And the world spins madly on

I thought of you and where you'd gone
And the world spins madly on.

Song of the day - Umbrella

I'm sure you've all heard this song sung by one person or another, most likely by Rihanna. I personally have heard versions not only by Rihanna, but by Mandy Moore and Tegan and Sara. It wasn't until Marie Digby that I truly fell in love with this song.

Song of the day - Rushing Back

I've been loving this song for a long time. Zack Hexum's voice is way too easy to love, and I do. I'm sure this song can be easy to relate to for some or maybe even most.

Here's the lyrics for Rushing Back...

Rushing Back - Zack Hexum
Keep that smile on your lips
All you'll touch is fingertips
Try and keep some form of dignity

Hold on to this embrace
This may be your final taste
Is it payment for your past indiscretions?

I know it can be hard
when a hand might touch a leg
I know it can be hard
when her body brushes yours

But when your hands fit around her waste like they used to
don't she feel that too

and when you see in her eyes the same thing that you saw before
don't you want it more

It all is rushing back
It all comes rushing back to you

Keep this image in your mind
If you're being left behind
There will be somebody else to lust for

And though their lips won't taste the same
And you can't forget her name
And their shirt won't fit in quite the same way

But when your hands fit around her waste like they used to
don't she feel that too

and when you see in her eyes the same thing that you saw before
don't you want it more

It all is rushing back
It all comes rushing back to you

Song of the day - You are the only one I love

Alright, the song I'm loving today is by Jaymay, You Are The Only One I Love. Its a really mellow and sweet song. If you've found the only one you love, you'll probably love it too. Also, if you're name is Jamie, you'll probably love it even more. ;)

You Are The Only One I Love
Jaymay

The first time that I met you I knew
One day I would know you even better
When people tried to tell me "Do not fall for him"
I told myself "Don't let them get to you"

You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love to love

You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love
You are the only one

The first thing that you said to me was
"Jamie I love you, Jamie I love you, Jamie, Jamie, I love you"
And I've never been one to believe in love at first sight
But now I know it exists

You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love to love

You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love
You are the only one

We went for walks through leaves in parks
Your winter sleeve was pulled over my hand
Don't you know I thought of you when on St. Mark's
I saw some other man collecting cans

You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love to love

You are the only one I love
You are the only one I love
You are the only one

Song of the day - Best For Last

All weekend, I had this song on repeat. For that reason, I thought I'd share it with you as my song of the day. I started listening to the artist Adele for the very reason that her name is quite similar to my name, in fact I get called Adele a lot. This is one of her several good songs on her album 19.

I relate to a few of the lines in Best For Last, but more than that, I love the catchy beat and her voice in this song.

Here are the lyrics:

Adele - Best For Last
Wait, do you see my heart on my sleeve?
It's been there for days on end and
It's been waiting for you to open up
Just you baby, come on now
I'm trying to tell you just how
I'd like to hear the words roll out of your mouth finally
Say that it's always been me

That's made you feel a way you've never felt before
And I'm all you need and that you never want more
Then you'd say all of the right things without a clue
But you'd save the best for last
Like I'm the one for you

You should know that you're just a temporary fix
This isn't a routine with you it don't mean that much to me
You're just a filler in the space that happened to be free
How dare you think you'd get away with trying to play me

Why is it everytime I think I've tried my hardest
It turns out it ain't enough cause you're still not mentioning love
What am I supposed to do to make you want me properly?
I'm taking these chances and getting away
And though I'm trying my hardest you go back to her
And I think that I know things may never change
I'm still hoping one day I might hear you say

I make you feel a way you've never felt before
And I'm all you need and you never want more
Then you'd say all of the right things without a clue
But you'd save the best for last
Like I'm the one for you

You should know that you're just a temporary fix
This isn't a routine with you it don't mean that much to me
You're just a filler in the space that happened to be free
How dare you think you'd get away with trying to play me

But, despite the truth I know
I find it hard to let go and give up on you
Seems I love the things you do
Like the meaner you treat me the more eager I am
To persist with this heartbreak and running around
And I think that I know things may never change
I'm still hoping one day I might hear you say

I make you feel a way you've never felt before
And I'm all you need and that you never want more
And we'll say all of the right things without a clue
And you'll be the one for me and me the one for you

See her performing it live on YouTube.

As always, I'd love to hear your opinions on this song.

Song of the day - Gone

For today's song of the day, I picked a song that I've been loving for about a week. Melody Gardot has a gorgeous voice that I can't get over. The soft spot I have for her and her music grew after reading her bio.

Her song Gone is really emotional and it kind of gets to me. I find myself constantly playing it.

Melody Gardot
Gone
I won't wake up To the sound of your feet
Walking down the hall
Like a soft heartbeat
I won't wake up
Cause by the time that
I do you'll be gone
I won't look back
On a past so long
I won't look back
On the things gone wrong
I won't look back
Cause by the time that
I do you'll be gone
I won't have words
I've said all that there is to say
I won't have words
Cause I know you'll just throw them away
I won't have words
Cause by the time that
I do you'll be gone
By the time that
I do you'll be gone
By the time that
I do you'll be gone

Song of the day - Don't Wake Me Up

My song of the day is going to be Don't Wake Me Up by The Hush Sound on the album Like Vines.

I chose this song because I had a lovely dream this morning before the alarm went off. I wish I wouldn't have woken up because I wanted it to be real so bad!

The Hush Sound - Don't Wake Me Up lyrics

You came to me
In seemless sleep and slipped right in
Behind my eyes on the back of my mind
We swam a sea of pretty sights and chandelier skies
I swore I could feel you breathe
It was all so real to me

The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you away (oooh)
Don't wake me up
I am still dreaming the story's undone
Unravel at the seams
Don't wake me up
Death is misleading and when I fall asleep
Sleep with a ghost

I moved in the dark
The room calm and cold
The quiet hollow
I am such a haunted soul
Your ghost is gone the bed is so cold

The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you away (oooh)
Don't wake me up
I am still dreaming the story's undone
Unravel at the seams
Don't wake me up
Death is misleading and when I fall asleep
Sleep with a ghost

Oh you were a fire caught in a storm
Memories like embers keep us warm
You will leave me in the morning
Leave Me

The light it slipped through the window
The morning ripped you away (oooh)

The light it slipped through the window
The morning ripped you away (oooh)

The light it slipped through the window
The morning ripped you away (oooh)
